Observing Memorial Day

celticdragonfly for all the details). We finished it this evening with a quiet observation of Memorial Day. We gathered the kids together and I explained that we take this day to honor those who died to keep us free. Then I read the Gettysburg Address to them. This was really aimed at Brendan, it'll be years before the other two understand it. I'm not sure how much he understood--he asked "why" at one point but I'm not sure if that was a real question or an attempt to simulate paying attention. But I'm glad we did it, and I think we want to make a family tradition of observing the holiday this way.
