Day 19 – Favorite book turned into a movie

This is a tough one. Starship Troopers? Hanging the title on a disgraceful movie doesn't make it a movie of the book. Puppet Masters? Not as bad a movie, but it's a long way from the book. I liked the "Ender's Game" short story but thought the book version was bloated (and haven't seen the movie yet). So, gratuitous plot changes and all, this will have to go to The Lord of the Rings. Great book, great movie, lots of overlap.

You are the only other person I know (though I've met a couple others at SF cons) who agrees with me that "Ender's Game" was a killer short story and a mediocre novel.

I won't see the movie Because Reasons.

My favorite book that got turned into a movie would probably be Watchmen. Although they had to cut out a lot to make it a movie I felt like they captured the majority of the essence of what made it great.

I read the short story first. I picked up the book hoping for follow-up or more detail . . . and instead found parallel stories with much less interest and excitement.
