I generally don't worry about my condiments supporting one political party over another. Now, my canned goods, on the other hand, that's a different story. World peas, after all...
And I thought the Star Spangled Ice Cream (http://www.starspangledicecream.com/) was a silly idea.
And their reasons are even sillier. Any business that markets their products outside of their home country tries to tailor their products to that country's tastes. And usually makes the product in that market as well - Coca-Cola doesn't make every bottle of coke they sell in the US, for example.
Besides which, Teresa Heinz only holds a 4% stake in the Heinz company. (http://www.snopes.com/politics/kerry/heinz.asp)
"The leading competitor not only has 57 varieties, but has 57 foreign factories as well. W Ketchup comes in one flavor: American."
Huh? Please define what "American" flavor is?? New England style??? Southern??? Southwest and Tex-Mex?? Hawaiian?? Midwest??
Besides which, it's not like the Heinz company is outsourcing ketchup production outside of the US. They have 79 factories, and 57 of them are outside of the US - which leaves 22 in the US alone.
Oh, I dunno. Allowing Pat Buchanan to speak at the convention awhile back was right up there. Giving contributions back to the gay "Log Cabin Republicans" wasn't swift.
Dumber still was letting the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act go by without trumpeting the fact that GOP congress-critters nearly ALL voted WITH Lyndon Johnson/Bobby Kennedy/Martin Luther King (MLK not a congress-critter, but still...) at a time when the Democrats in Congress mustered a majority of their party to vote AGAINST civil rights -- that's pretty stupid in my book.
What, boycott Heinz, and put all those migrant workers in SE Iowa out of work? What about the Mexican restaurants that have sprung up to cater to their tastes? (I didn't realize they were paid enough to eat out.)
Seriously, leave my Heinz alone. They make the best no-salt-added ketchup on the market!
