No Renewal

Got a call this evening from American Home Shield. They're a "home warranty" outfit, supposedly providing home repairs from a central source instead of you having to call a different repairman for every problem that comes up. Hadn't worked out that way.

AHS: "Hi, I'm so-and-so from AHS. Did you know your warranty has expired?"

Me: "And good riddance."

AHS: "Oh, why do you say that?"

Me: [snip litany of hassles and unreturned requests, summarized as no services were ever provided] "But I'll tell you what. If you mail me a refund for the whole year's fee I'll just think of you as 'well meaning incompetents' instead of 'thieves.'" And I hung up.

Most satisfaction I've ever had dealing with that company.

I'd love to hear the story. My mom and I both had very good luck with AHS. Until this past year, for mom. They wouldn't replace stuff, they keep fixing stuff that is beyond the last legs. She has another company now, and is very happy.

Wierd. I've never had any problem at all with them. Even replaced my water heater when it cracked open. YMMV

Might be variation in the regional offices. I figure they can't give everyone the treatment I got or they'd've been out of business years ago. But they used up their 2nd chances with me.

Nothing very exciting. Refused to fix the heating system unless it was upgraded, then refused to accept paperwork from the people who'd installed the upgrade as proof it happened. Went through a few iterations on that. Then tried to get a plumber through them and never even got a call back. Think there was something else but I forget what. Then I called to cancel the service since they were just wasting my time and got no refund and no interest in improving things. So it wasn't very bright of them to ask me for more money after never providing any services.
