Visit From a Hawk

The local Borders hosts monthly visits from the Fort Worth Zoo. One of the zookeepers brings out an animal or two and gives a talk to the kiddies about it. This month we had a red-tailed hawk. Lovely creature. Not all that thrilled about being on display under a low ceiling. I've always liked spotting one--they're common in California too, so we saw many when we lived in Lompoc--but this is the closest I've ever been to one. Maggie and Jamie were thrilled. Maggie laughed out loud whenever the bird jumped into the air. I'm glad we got to go.

Of course, we had to get some books while were at the Borders. The zookeeper always talks up a book describing the animal, usually one on discount. This time we also got a big pitch for next month, when he brings an owl to the Harry Potter book release. I got PJ O'Rourke's Peace Kills. Hawkish enough.
