I found myself revisiting the Theological Engineering Exam and have a question Google couldn't help me with:

Why are a Mormon's sins measured in "McBeals"?

I think the nice Mormon folks are still a bit annoyed about the TV show "Ally McBeal." I can see how they might have taken substantial offense at the show from time to time. Many of the funniest parts actually... So I expect the unit of sin referenced is named in Ally's honor.

The quiz is GREAT, btw. Thanks for posting that.

Why are the Mormons miffed at Ally McBeal? I've never seen the show, are there frequent anti-Mormon references or something?

The show is abit difficult to describe. The main problem was likely the many many sexual references and situations portrayed. Nothing anti-Mormon that I ever remember, but I can easily see the show being singled out for special attention.

All speculation on my part.

Love the icon BTW. Caddy Shack is alive and well... ;-)

Oh, well. If Mormons had a sense of humor. . .

They'd still be heretics, and obnoxiously prostylizing ones at that. I once spent an entire Saturday morning on my front porch getting us put on the 'do not solicit' list of the local Mormon church. I refused to let them in the house to talk to me, but I sat and talked history, archaeology, and theology for four hours. When they left, they were totally confused. I offered to let them bring their 'bishop' by to answer my questions, but I never heard from them again. I'm still rather proud of that in my own little way.

The biggest problem was that I knew more about Mormon history than they did. I had a Mormon classmate who tried to convert me, and I did my homework on the subject. Silly rabbits.

And the image is via the SJ Games "Chez Grunt" which is where I scanned the image from.

I could counter with a cheerfully offkey version of the Osmonds song "One Bad Apple Don't Spoil the Whole Bunch", but I might be accused of having a sense of humor, and will therefore courteously refrain.

You don't seriously believe that, do you?

It's hardly a serious topic . . . and nobody's come up with a better theory.

Well, you can never tell with people on livejournal. = - D

Thanks for clarifying.
