Triumphant Cat

Last night Karina came downstairs dragging a sock. Not just any sock--one of celticdragonfly's precious hand-knit socks. And she was proud of it. Ever see a nature show with a lion carrying off an antelope, the body dragging between the forelegs? She had it in that hold. With the proud head-high posture too.

celticdragonfly chased her off and rescued the sock, but it took me a while to stop laughing.

One of the cats we had growing up was always trying to sneak and steal food. And she never made it* because at her moment of glory, when she was on the counter and had, say, a chicken leg in her mouth, she'd utter a loud meow of triumph. Which alerted us so we could come in and take it away from her. She never learned.

* Except once, when she hid toast in my bed.

We'be gotten very careful about putting our dirty laundry in tall bins. Any clothes that have been worn close to the body are fair game.
I still remember watching my orange kitten triumphantly dragging my nightie down the stairs between her legs and burbling to herself in victory.
We call it the sock love song
