"Selenite" means "of the moon" (derived from the Greek). It's the name of a gypsum crystal, and sometimes of aliens living on the moon. I picked it in the days before the World Wide Web to reflect my career goal: being the Chief Engineer of a lunar base. This was also the pre-Challenger disaster days when that looked doable. Now I write RPG articles about lunar settlements instead of trying to build one myself.
