The line about Fort Worth's weather is that we get snow just once a year. This year's is arriving early. After the horrendous time I had getting through last year's I'm playing it safe and taking the day off work.

We have hot chocolate. Life is good.

My daughter, who lives in Duncanville, called this morning. Some schools closed, but not her youngest's. It is in the 60s in central VT.

But that stuff is headed this way . . .

More like "calling in idiots on ice."

I'm being a bum too. And I have a 4x4. Way too many folks around here don't quite get the frictionless surface drill.

I'm quite sure I could get to work. And not so sure I could get back later with the truck in one appropriately shaped piece.

I did bring a report home to work on though. And I might even do that.

Or I could solder up the Christmas light controller board that UPS brought me yesterday... ;-) ( I'm starting on the 2007 lights and my 2006 lights aren't up yet. )

( ok maybe I'll work on the report AND the board. )

I probably could make it in and back. But it would be nasty. And I think I used up all of my luck points doing my commute in the last ice storm.

Lights. What a concept. Going up on ladders in winter weather so that your winter electric bill can resemble your summer electric bill.

Mind you, I feel a bit bad about us never decorating when Maggie is waxing rhapsodic about the "descorations" in the neighborhood - I know she'd like it.

It's only a few kilowatts worth of lights...

No ladders today, but I may prepare the strings for installation when we get better weather. I'm sure some bulbs need replacing and such.

As for next year - I need LED's. LOTS of LED's. 1/10th the power of traditional lights. Similar brightness. And I might not have to upgrade the electric service to handle the load that way...

BTW, this is what happens when you don't put up lights for your kids. They grow up and put up HUGE lighting displays. Bwahahaha. :-)

Well, that's fine - they will be paying those electric bills, not me.

Actually, no it's not - my parents never got into light displays. Once or twice in recent years I remember a single tasteful row of blue lights around the eaves. But that's it. Usually nothing exterior at all. Which was downright unusual in our neighborhood. The next door neighbor went way over the top - and most of the neighborhood went over the top AND tacky. Interior we did some.

We're discussing interior stuff, since we're actually staying home this Christmas.

Yeah, my mom never did xmas lights--consequently, I go nuts for the holidays. Oh, not really nuts, not like some people do. Nothing tacky (I hope!). And no ladders. *shudder* But lights in the windows, yes, yes!
