Brian Dunbar pointed out that the current astronaut scandal is very close to the opening of Heinlein's Stranger In a Strange Land. I suppose the disappointing thing is that astronauts weren't on Mars in 2007 . . . probably seemed like a good bet in 1960.

Stranger also had gaining access to the President via the First Lady's astrologer, and Double Star had an actor in the Leading role. I don't recall instances when that came out, but show business has to be one of the leading sources of national politicians these days after the law. I suppose it means that the most important factor is getting elected and celebrities have a head start.

Low humor.

This one is not mine and it is in exceptionally bad taste, but it is in fact work safe.

The original posting of this captioned the image "Make up your own joke."
I suggest something along the lines of "Root Cause Analysis."

Ah, right.

See, sometimes it's called a "birdie" and that doesn't work at all.

The other name for it does.

I can see that terminology switch being confusing.

This whole deal reads like really really bad late night TV so far...

Drudge is hinting at some sort of NASA statement but the link doesn't work yet. Should be interesting.

I'm trying to visualize them picking who had to write that statement. Maybe NASA PR roulette . . . pass around a pistol with five loaded chambers. The one who lives has to write the statement. :)

That's about right. Although there would be that Morbid Curiosity outweighing Better Judgment thing tempting one to hang around for the press conference...

Yet more evidence that we are, indeed, living in the Crazy Years(TM). I'm sure Heinlein is doing little loop-de-loops in the ocean (having had his ashes scattered at sea, he cannot spin in his grave nor churn in his urn).
