Lumus Co. expects to ship video eyeglasses in 2008. This is something I've been wanting for a while. It's a pair of eyeglasses projecting a video image equivalent to a 70" screen nine feet away. It's probably not up to supporting true augmented reality but it's a major step toward it. They're also putting some serious work into the aesthetics of the device as a way to obtain popular acceptance. It's nice to see that in a tech start-up.

I was going to say that's been around for a while before I realized it was still showing you regular vision as well.

Neat.

I also think this is the way we will interact with our computers in the future. As much as flat screens are getting bigger and more affordable, I truly think that we will eventually get rid of the conventional "monitor" all together. As a CAD drafter, no matter how large my screens get (and they are pretty large) they still can't come close to what I can see when I lay a print down on a table and simply "look at it". I am looking forward to the day when this is a reality in a digital sense... I'd also like to be sitting on a plane, in the back of a taxi, or on the train, and be watching a movie, reading an essay, or simply going through my email and from the outside, it simply looks like I'm staring straight ahead!
