Gaming History
Sep. 14th, 2007 03:52 pmI'm not sure when I started gaming, but a lot of the first ones I remember were published in 1977. So I may be coming up on my 30th year in the hobby. I'm trying to remember all the different role playing games I've played. Here's my guess so far:
Basic Dungeons and Dragons (blue book)
Chivalry & Sorcery 1st ed
Tunnels and Trolls 5th ed
Metamorphosis Alpha
Gamma World
Runequest 2nd ed
Monsters! Monsters!
Recon*
Starships and Spacemen
Bunnies and Burrows
Aftermath*
The Fantasy Trip
Star Trek: the RPG (FASA)
Call of Cthulhu (multiple versions)*
GURPS (including Traveller)
D&D 3.0 and 3.5*
Serenity RPG**
*only as a player, not GM
** run with GURPS rules

This is where I am NOT a geek ...
Date: 2007-09-15 12:52 pm (UTC)I suspect this is the reason that I tend to see SecondLife as a "marketing environment" rather than the "playspace" that so many others use it for. I have an avatar that looks like me, wears (one set of) clothes that could have come out of my closet, and has only one eccentricity (he's almost never seen without a cup of coffee). This in contrast to the "trim, beautiful, and well tanned" mass of avatars, and the "furry/fantasy" avatars that are all over the place.
I wonder what it is in my psychological make-up that makes role-playing so uninteresting to me?
