Any California restaurant has a sternly worded sign at the entrance describing the penalties if you smoke on the premises. At lunch yesterday I noticed a sign in that spot.

It warned that possession of an unlicensed weapon carried a penalty of 10 years and $10,000. Licensed ones are no problem, of course.

Well, you're in an open carry state. (and one that doesn't have the massively retarded knife and gun laws that we've got out here.) So that makes sense.

And as much as I dislike smoking in restaurants, given a choice between allowing smoking and allowing open carry, I'd have to opt for the open carry.

Hmmm... Puts a new perspective on the waitress asking if you prefer smoking or Non-smoking. ::Chuckles::

Heh, there's an old comedian's routine on that - I KNOW the guy's name, he was in Dead Poet's Society, etc, I've just totally blocked on it right now. It was about airline travel though. "The only people flying to the middle east right now ARE terrorists…will you be sitting in armed or unarmed? In case of a cabin seizure a small gun will fall from the ceiling. Run to the front and claim it in the name of Allah"

Ah, found it - Robin Williams, of course. Live at the Met. Google is good.

Another quote I ran into finding that one, a bit relevant:

"I have strong feelings about gun control. If there's a gun around, I want to be controlling it."
- Clint Eastwood
