JSH pulls out the data from some glacial ice cores to provide an interesting perspective on current temperature trends.

Sshh you and just drink the kool-aid.

Don't doubt the Goracle.

Or look at the man behind the curtain.

It's always interesting to see that the "hottest" times only work when you go back to the LIA. It's sort of like looking at a sports team and saying, these guys have won 5 of thier last 6...while true, they also lost the prior 10 sobthey are 5-11 which sucks.

Frankly I don't have the background or training to fairly evaluate historical climate data. The majority of climatologists say we have strong evidence of man-made global warming, and many sceptics say nay. Frankly the subject has become far too political on both sides to be treated with an objective eye.

Even if we are undergoing global warming due to technologically released C02, I don't thin that is nearly the dire threat that ocean acidification could be. From the numbers I've seen, the ocean is carbonating through boundary layer absorption. It appears to be disrupting plankton development.

If that is true, whether it is man-made or not, we have WAY bigger problems than even a 5 degree increase in global mean temperature would cause.

Ocean accidification is where I most want to see more scientific research. If we harm the foundations of oceanic life, the rest of the ecosystem will suffer too.

Research on the oceans would be good. I'd also like engineering research on cost-effective ways to sequester CO2. Which will probably come out as "plant more trees" but I can still dream of high-tech megaprojects.
