Texas is having primary elections today. The presidential races are settled so even if I cast a protest vote the count would be on page B17. The other primaries are for judges and utilities commissioners so I'd need months or years of following local news closely to figure out who these people are and what issues matter. Oh, and somebody's running Constable in my local district. I haven't even figured out what a constable is here--it's not another name for county sherrif, we've got one of those. Seems to be a process server who can issue tickets.

Heck with it. I'm too ignorant to vote today.

Okay--a process server who can arrest people. Doesn't help me figure out who to vote for, though the current incumbent has apparently been abusing his powers. Sigh. Hopefully I can figure out all the races by November.

Oh it gets better. Depending on the party you vote in, people are being asked back to the polls at 7:15 for a "Precinct Convention" to discuss and nominate party delegates out there as well.

Agree on the confusion part. I suspect someone needs to offer a "Texas Politics 101" course for all those who have moved from out of state

The polls are CLOSED!

AND I am HOME. 44 people voted in our precinct today. By law, I had to be there at 0530, to have polls open for 0600. I could have been there at 0830 and still have beat the first voter there!

It truly amazed me how many voted for politicians (read Democrats) who had dropped out of the race - protests, I guess. In Louisiana, you also had to vote for committee members for your party. No independents (read me) allowed to vote in a Federal election. Louisiana has open primaries for state offices, though, so this "rejection" is only once every 4 years.

Next election: April 18 - a tax election. Whoopee!
