Sen. McCain said he'd entertain being Kerry's Veep. Then he said "It's impossible to imagine the Democratic Party seeking a pro-life, free-trading, non-protectionist, deficit hawk. They'd have to be taking some steroids, I think, in order to let that happen."

Guess not.

Sigh. Is voting for someone so much to ask?

This gives Kerry a de-facto endorsement from McCain

He said he was going to keep campaigning for Bush, so I think "entertain" may translate as "instead of hanging up immediately I'll listen and say no politely."

(nods) It's possible - but, either by his words or the media spin on them, he gave the impression of support. And considering the screaming I was reading on some of the far-right blogs about his comments, I'm not the only one who got the impression of a de-facto support.

I've suspected for a while that McCain's campaigning for Bush is due to party loyalty than personal liking - I doubt the smear campaign Bush threw against McCain has been forgotten, and certainly McCain has been marginallized within his own party - he's got too much personal power and prestige, but the NeoCon GOPers can't stand him because he's too old school GOP for their tastes.
