Stephen Green wrote a good summary of the central issue of this war. Then I joined the discussion in comments and found myself a voice of moderation. I don't get to do that very often.

It's pretty scary to find out that some people consider my nightmares to be a good plan.

Suppose Shrub rounded up, for internment camps, all residents of the U.S. of Saudi nationality, or origin, or married to Saudis, or otherwise affiliated with the group of
folks accused of the actual attacks on 9/11.

Would there be protesters carrying signs: "Bush == Roosevelt!" ?

If Shurb ordered a nuclear attack on a smaller city of Saudi Arabia, (not the capital,
not the most populous, but a significant city anyhow) just as way to avoid
a massive invasion with thousands of military casualties -- would protestors carry
signs: "Bush == Truman!"

Bay of Pigs

Oh, belatedly it occurs to me that having the CIA and miltary special forces recruit local and
expat insurgents to be the shock troops to overthrow a repressive dictatorship is a "Bay of Pigs"-like plan. Except that that action went unsupported by U.S. airpower, while the more recent effort in Afghanistan was HEAVILY supported by air.

So it might have been correct to carry a sign reading "Bush ~= (approximately equal) Kennedy".

But I haven't seen such a sign.
