Exchange at work:

I described the series of test runs I was planning for the software, include four different values of the "zoom" input.

Programmer: "They'll all give the same result, unless you don't trust me."

Me: "I'm testing your software. It's my *job* to not trust you."

Of course it is, but warning him may not be the best idea .

BTW, happy day after Maggie's birthday -- I think this June 8th was a lot more restful, yes?

Given how many times this guy's software has been shown to be badly bolluxed, I think he's had plenty of warning. (The horror stories I hear...)
