Sure I could throw it, but it's really loud and everyone would think we were being attacked. So I said "Here, hold this" to my driver

I occasionally stuck one of the troops with something they really didn't like, but fortunately for them I was never given that kind of toy to play with.

Okay so it was easier in the Cold War in clement Germany and we didn't have to sweat every gram of gear we hauled around and I'm the kind of guy who would do this, but...

Didn't anybody else salvage from the range, keep, and carry around ever afterward on one's keychain an old grenade pin for just such a contingency?

The Army is pretty anal about turning in dunnage these days, grenade pins and spoons specifically.
