We will get the cats out of here too, of course.
We've done all we can to this point. And we're having a Weather Channel marathon until we get that call.

Date: 2005-08-30 02:02 pm (UTC)We left Merlin outside a carrier because:
1) We thought he'd handle it better.
2) He's smaller than Skippy, and easier to control if he panics.
He panicked. Big time. We put him in a mesh hamper I had. I held him on my lap in the front passenger seat and held the top of the hamper closed. He sounded like an evacuation siren all the way to Zachary. (Similar also to a submarine siren--"Dive! Dive!" Or an air raid siren. You get the idea.) He tried to get out several times (and succeeded--thankfully before we had gone far, because he did get under Pat's feet.) He climbed my arm and sunk his claws in deep. He shed about a pound of fur and was so upset that he was panting like a dog throughout the journey.
We are definitely borrowing a carrier from Mom and Dad for the return trip. And to think we thought letting Merlin see out would help him...
I didn't know cats could be agorophobic.

Date: 2005-08-30 02:57 pm (UTC)You *can* put two cats in a carrier, you know, together. We used to do that when we had four cats. We moved them to Texas with two carriers, one medium sized, one large. It does need to be two cats who won't fight the whole way. But in an emergency, better that than them endangering everyone by messing with the driver.
