Went to Wal-Mart the other night. On the one hand, it's great to see a big Serenity poster at the entrance pushing the DVD sales. OTOH, what the heck does this cover have to do with the movie? I don't remember River ever having that expression in the movie, and Summer Glau doesn't have blue eyes. The main focus is on this incoherent riot or battle or something that was never in the movie. It looks like all the marketing people trying new and innovative ideas to push Serenity got fired, and the intern was told "Make a cover picture. Try for something like Attack of the Clones. Or Buffy. And don't sweat it, kid, nobody but the hardcore fans is going to buy this anyway."

Meanwhile, it looks like we're going to receive the answer to the question What happens if you drop a Mary Sue into a Heterodyne Boys story?

I dunno if you have the same cover that the bootleg of the Asian release has, but it was pretty crappy.

There's a bunch of fan-made ones that are much better. I suspect they've done better having a contest on the Browncoats board.

Looks like the cover for Warriors of the Wind... Which seemed to be "take this Dune cover and add a few things that might vaguely relate to the actual anime."

There are reasons, good reasons, why I [i]believe[/i] the story that Miyazaki threw the VCR out the window when he saw the butcher-job that was done on poor Nausicaa.

lol, in itself, i like the cover for the dvd, but you're right, it doesn't have that much to do with the movie. on the other hand - as a pre-order, it's #4 on amazon's list of top-selling dvds(firefly is #13 at the moment). let's see where that goes once it's actually released (yay!!! mine's one of the preorders!)

and, you know, i hadn't thought about it and i'll save my judgment for when the rest of the story is posted(haven't read the regular coics, just the online archive), but mary sue seems to fit. at thevery least, she seems like someone who is there to annoy the characters we like(i think - i don't think i've actually read a heterodyne boys story, so this'll be a first for me).
