Looks like it's gonna happen

So Northrop brought me out to Texas to interview for a job, and then their budget was cut and the job went away. Then somebody else quit and needed to be replaced. Today I got a verbal offer for the job.

Not completely settled yet--the relocation package they sent me would cover less than half of the cost to move us. They have this strange delusion that renters are all just-marrieds in a two-bedroom apartment with no kids. So I'm toting up the costs and we'll see if they'll actually foot the bill. I suspect they will, or Lockheed will actually make an offer (supposedly the paperwork for that one is working slowly through the system).

We're going to escape from LA!

I am delighted for you that this is going to happen, but I'm really upset at the thought of losing you to Texas. I want to be pleased that a) your career is moving somewhere, b) you'll be in a more affordable part of the world, and c) probably a better place to raise kids, all told, but d) I'm having a crappy week, anyway.

Yeah, we're going to miss seeing you too. Tearing up all our roots is going to be really painful, but there's no way we can keep things together here. Sigh. Sorry to add to the other troubles of the week.

I know that you've been looking forward to this for a while. Have you worked out all of the fun that's going to happen with renegotiating parental agreements for Brendan yet?

He's been put on formal notice that we're going to move, but haven't done any negotiating yet. Apparently he's not going to throw a major tantrum. We hope.
