As a voter for last year's Hugos I may nominate for this year's. Here's my ballot so far. I may be adding some more as I find ones I like amid the discussions and flames. The Martian's eligibility is disputed, though there's precedent for it with Old Man's War.

Query: I'd heard The Martian isn't eligible for nomination. What do you know about this?

Once the Sasquan folks get back to me with my nomination PIN, I'll post my own list. They have my money (if PayPal is to be believed) but I've heard theiy're rather back-logged.

I'd like to make a pitch though for including Person of Interest as the short form dramatic presentation. For my money, it's the best-written science fiction on T.V.

I'll have to check out some of your suggestions. They look interesting.

Old Man's War was website pubbed, then picked up by a big house. They did Hugo eligibility from the house publication. The Martian had a similar beginning, may have also been sold as an ebook at some point before being picked up. So the committee may rule by that. Or they can say it's the contract that counts.

I haven't seen any Person of Interest episodes. Which one would you recommend for the nomination, and are there any prior eps I should watch to understand it?

Are you familiar with any of Mark Oshiro's work? He's been nominated for best fan writer lots. He reads books & watches shows for the first time & writes commentary about them. Then cool, insightful discussion breaks out. His readings are the first audio books I've been able to do. He's currently reading Tamora Pierce & Terry Pratchett on alternating days. The readings are posted & archived on markreads dot net. He's also been at Fencon the last few years, so you may have seen him there.

Sometimes Mark just reads things, without writing up a commentary. That's what he did with Pat Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles, all 4 books [& also several short stories from her collection _Book of Enchantments_]. You might enjoy those, too.

Have you looked at Jo Walton's _What Makes This Book So Great_? I think it'd be under best related work? It's her posts from tor.com, including the Vorkosigan series & lots of other excellent stuff. The hardcover came out in 2014.
